Joni is definitely free as a bird in her music. And as brilliant as she is, I think she understands that music is much more about the heart than it is the mind.
This sentence you wrote..."In that moment when I'd asked the question, “how would I bring a minor seventh flat five chord into a song?” I'd actually already done it."
I recently had a big shift in my body's perception of pain during a session with my acupuncturist. I shared this with her after the session and she said to me, "When you asked the question about your hip, the body heard you and started the healing process before the session actually started."
After reading your story and then virtually celebrating that "aha moment" with you, it made me wonder how often we begin the process of learning something new the moment we define what we seek. I like that inquiry. And I loved your story!
Hi Kimberly – thank you so much for reading my story and virtually celebrating with me! I'm glad that you loved it! Also for taking the time to comment here. I love to hear about how people are receiving my writing, and what it sparks in them.
What an interesting enquiry, I'm going to hold that one too! I know that the mind and body are listening and responding to each other always, sometimes responding to each other in mysterious ways. I do think even the act of asking a question is priming us to be in a state to discover the answer. Setting intentions is similarly powerful.
It's reminding me of how, when you start a creative project, and then sleep on it mid-way through your process, your brain works overnight to try to find the answers.
I'm really happy also that you experienced a big shift with your hip!

Thanks for your reflection Jeff. Yes! Joni is a free-flying bird for sure. An inspirational one!
I experience making music as a heart-based and largely intuitive process, but it's also a full-body experience.
Me too!
